Team Canteen Takes on the 2026 Loan Market Oceanside Tauranga Half!

Canteen  Aotearoa is proud to be the charity partner for the Fulton Hogan Mount Festival of Multisport for the second year running!

Every day, Canteen supports rangatahi (young people) impacted by cancer – whether through their own diagnosis, cancer in their whānau, or grief and loss. Our free, wraparound support helps with the long-term emotional and social wellbeing of rangatahi, through counselling, peer events, therapeutic programmes, camps, leadership skills, development grants, and career guidance.

With no direct government funding, events like this are vital to help ensure rangatahi never have to face cancer alone.

This year, we’re putting our own team on the course — racing to raise funds so rangatahi can keep getting the help they need, when they need it most.

Meet Team Canteen!

Nick Laing (right), taking on the run. Nick has been our Chief Executive since 2019, bringing more than 20 years’ experience in health and social services. A trained social worker, he’s passionate about making sure rangatahi get the support they deserve. Nick is lacing up for the run to reflect his drive to keep Canteen moving forward.

Dan Everard (middle), spinning the wheels on the bike. Dan is our Digital Marketing Specialist and a proud British-born Kiwi convert who has fully embraced the great outdoors of Aotearoa. An avid cyclist, he’s currently training for the 160km Taupō Cycle Challenge — so he’ll be more than ready to take on the bike leg to ride for the rangatahi we support every day.

Kate MacKrill (left), making a splash in the swim. Kate is a Health Psychologist at Middlemore Hospital and a lecturer at the University of Auckland. With nearly 20 years of ocean swimming experience, she’s diving into the swim leg for Canteen, proud to back a cause that so many of her graduates have gone on to support.

Together, they’ll be racing not just for the finish line, but for rangatahi facing some of life’s toughest challenges.

Get behind the team!

We’re aiming to raise $5,000 to help provide:

  • $25 – a Youth Worker check-in for a rangatahi
  • $50 – A place at a peer support event
  • $150 – A professional counselling session

Donate now and show your support for Team Canteen – every step, pedal, and stroke counts!
